GINA DISOBEY

Gina Disobey is an “Afro-Italian multidisciplinary artist, also active as a cultural operator and youth worker, with a strong commitment to intersectionality themes.” Raised in an environment rich in diversity and inclusion, her artistic and cultural practice revolves around concepts of identity, healing, and empowerment. Born and raised in Fondi, she is the daughter of a Nigerian artist and an Italian silkscreen printer: an interweaving of cultures that has deeply influenced her creative journey.

In 2005, she moved to Innsbruck, in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps, to study architecture. Since then, she has lived in Austria, where for twenty years she has been actively involved in artistic projects and cultural initiatives oriented toward social change, collaborating with communities, institutions, and grassroots movements.

Despite the distance, Gina has always maintained a deep connection with her Italian roots and today looks with interest at the possibility of returning to live in Fondi, the city where she grew up. Being part of the Seminaria Biennial Festival represents for her a “precious opportunity to reconnect with her land and her community, bringing with her a rich baggage of experiences and an authentic passion for” art as a tool for social transformation.
