Sarah Deslandes (1986, France) is a young artist and curator. She graduated from the Offshore School in Shanghai (China) and the Fine Art School in Nîmes (France) to the congratulations of the jury.
Her work is performative, theoretical and curatorial, while her research focuses on inconspicuous and contextual pieces. She focuses on how the artwork appears, both in public space and in the context of institutional exhibitions. Made in collaboration with visitors or with chosen accomplices, his stealth actions (movements, interferences, events) mark space and time as micro disturbances, more or less discreet, that are meant to attract our attention. Performed by the artist or entrusted to accomplices, his “furtive” actions are always planned in advance. These ordinary and innocuous gestures punctuate exhibitions with their presence, a way of “infiltrating” the institution. In Deslandes’ practice, sometimes officially invited, sometimes not, context is essential: it frames the limits of what is authorized and transforms any simple action into performance. Having been invited to perform in renowned French museums and galleries such as the Saint-Etienne Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Sarah Deslandes now expects to take her project to a new level of internationality.
